Spotlight : Kevin Bongang

If you've seen a mural by Kevin Bongang, you will not soon forget it. Easily recognizable by his signature style, Bongang fills a blank slate with vibrant colors, unconventional lines and shapes, and playful imagery. The longer the art holds your gaze, the more alive it becomes.

Originally from Cameroon, West Africa, Bongang has had an artistic eye since his early childhood. His parents, seeing his level of talent, fostered his artistic creativity even allowing him to draw on the walls at home. Due to the political unrest in Cameroon, he moved at the age of 12 with his mom and sister to join his father in the United States where his father was finishing his PhD at the University of South Carolina. Several years later, they put down more permanent roots in Savannah, Georgia where Bongang's creativity began to flourish. After high school graduation, he went on to study at Savannah College of Art and Design where he received a Bachelors and Masters degree in Illustration and minored in printmaking.

Today, Bongang is commissioned by businesses nationwide to create one-of-a-kind murals for indoor and outdoor walls. His work can be found across Atlanta, Nashville, Savannah, and more. His art is also featured locally at the Brunswick Wake Up Coffee location, The Chapel, the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, Satilla Marsh Elementary, South of Heaven BBQ, the Jefecitas food truck, and several buildings in downtown Brunswick.

Bongang and his equally talented wife Britney, now call Brunswick home though they're never in one place for long. They regularly invest their time and talent back into this community here in the Golden Isles. In 2021 Bongang designed and donated 45 pairs of custom designed and painted shoes to foster children at Royal Family Kids Camp, a week-long summer camp run by Hope 1312 Collective.
