little pink houses
If you're familiar with my work, you've probably seen a lot of my marshscapes. But did you know I also paint architecture?
One of my favorite subjects is beach houses. Because I use some creative license and a lot of color, you might not recognize several of these as local St. Simons homes. But On The Corner Of Demere & Ocean, Beach Laundry and Contentment are, to name a few!
This is a series I plan to return to, for several reasons. There is something so fun and challenging about rendering the lines of roofs, windows, walls and steps. It makes me sad that the old school beach cottages are disappearing at an alarming rate. The island "skyline" has changed so much since my family moved there in 1980! In dreams, houses are said to represent a person's life, their spiritual state. Perhaps that's why I love the concepts of historic preservation and redemption so much.
